Welcome.
Come on in, come on in.
Because of my work, camping
用品とかそういうグッズとかもgear and goods like that, work stuff kept increasing and it got cramped.
So since I got a car, I was looking for a detached house.
Since I drive for work, I was looking for a detached house with parking.
That's when I found our current house.
That's when I found our current house.
Outdoor products are so good these days.
I feel like it's a waste to use them only for camping.
Surprisingly, they're comfortable to sit in and well-designed, so I mostly use them at home.
People often tell me it feels nostalgic.
It's from the generation when our grandparents built houses.
It feels calming, like visiting grandpa's house or grandma's house, you know, that nostalgic feeling.
This is the living room.
In the living room we eat, work, and do projects.
Actually, there were all
襖とかがあるんですけど、やっぱそれで狭くなるのが嫌だったんで、まず引っ越してからすべての扉を外すっていうsliding doors and such, but I didn't like how they made it feel cramped, so first after moving in I started by removing all the doors
ことから始めて、少しでも広く見せたいんで、寒いし、夏はね、エアコンto make it look even a little more spacious. It's cold, and in summer the air conditioner
struggles, but still, feeling a more open space is better, so I removed them all.
Because I can see the garden, at first I was properly working in my workroom.
But lately I've switched to here.
And birds come by, butterflies come by,
stray cats come by, and being able to watch them while working is nice.
I always dreamed of having a cupboard like this, and I bought it as a reward to myself for working hard.
This cupboard.
This is the Japanese-style room.
Right now it's pretty much become the kids' room.
A place to play with the kids.
My husband and I made this with DIY, just putting up wallpaper.
IKEAAnd the rest is IKEA.
We first made it as a diaper-changing space, and wanted to make it an exciting room.
It's just for our own satisfaction, but we also keep nursery school things here so we can grab them quickly when getting ready.
I'm making it hoping they'll use it like a secret hideout.
Like Doraemon's room.
In summer,
全部扉取っちゃってるからエアコン上から熱風が結構入ってきちゃうのでこの布やれば意外とsince I've removed all the doors, hot air comes down from upstairs, so with this curtain it's surprisingly...
I don't know if it's cooler, but the hot air from the second floor is intense. Still, it doesn't feel closed off.
Just about a single layer of fabric.
And here we happened to have a garden.
It was an empty garden, but having a garden is nice, and there's an engawa veranda.
There are storm shutters, so surprisingly rain doesn't get in, so we can enjoy being outside even when it rains.
Living here turned out to be really great.
And it was right during COVID, so having the garden was really great.
We can eat outside too, and it was a great change of pace.
Also, the kitchen is small and there's dead space above, and my wife likes cooking but there's nowhere to put seasonings.
So we used 2x4 lumber as posts.
And the rest, like Labrico-style tension rods sold at home centers, that's how we did it.
We also added an IKEA bar, and put up a magnet to hold knives.
It's good, but I really prioritize taste, and it can steam and work as an oven too.
With camping, you can just put charcoal in it and use it as is, so it's tough and heavy, but the ingredients become delicious just like that,
I buy local produce at the roadside station over there and just throw it in, and with just meat and a little herbs and salt and pepper it becomes super delicious.
This is a cushion cover, but inside, um, there's a sleeping bag in it.
It can be a cushion, and rather than just storing the sleeping bag as is at home.
I thought I might as well make it into a cushion.
This is cute.
Things like this are convenient when a disaster or something happens, aren't they.
That's the good thing about outdoors.
When push comes to shove, you can manage somehow.
That's a huge advantage.
And, you know, nowadays everyone really designs things so stylishly, outdoor brands too,
There are really so many things you can use at home too.
It would be a waste to use them only for outdoors.
Yes, I met my husband and the two of us would go hiking and camping together, basically that kind of hobby for the two of us,
Our common hobby was that, like playing outside.
They were making things with design that could be used at home too, so it just naturally became like that.
Rather than forcing it, storage is hard too since they take up space, so might as well just use them.
At first, you know, that MUJI one.
I dreamed of buying their cupboard.
And then when we had a bit more leeway, we wanted something special, something original, and from there we went to vintage pieces,
Well, it's an old traditional house, an old-style Japanese house, but what blends in well with that is vintage furniture, I guess,
It's not trying too hard, right?
It's more like how you want to show yourself, yes.
Isn't it fine because you're using things you truly love?
It's not a house I'm confident about, but it does feel like everything harmonizes well.
It's not a stylish old house, it's more like, as I said, at the level of grandpa's and grandma's house,
A commonplace old house, you know, it's not even really that old.
So it's just right, strangely.
Yeah, so this level is comfortable.
Yeah, about this level.
Right after we moved in, we tried this and that, like moving this table over there.
And things like that, we tried, but after all that trial and error it's settled,
Yeah, it's been like 20 years or so, hasn't it.
Plants, humans, cats, and the house too.
Everyone ages together, something like that, I think.
I think it's fine as long as everyone can live relaxed and at ease.
I feel like the most calming place is the kitchen.
I really love julienning, you know.
And while I'm doing that, I don't have to think about anything, I guess that's what's good.
And also, you know, something like...
Rather than putting it in the fridge as is, doing a little prep makes the next step easier,
Like saving up for your future self, I like doing that.
If I don't do that, I feel unsettled.
Something I've been using a lot lately is a steamer basket, I use it a lot, they're trendy now, aren't they.
The one I bought online.
We often ate steamed vegetables in winter.
You can serve it as is, so it's easy.
This is cute too.
Um, when the pot boils, steam comes out of this goat, cow's nose.
Then its snorting looks really fierce, it's cute.
We moved in when it was newly built, so when we first came in, the kitchen was sparkling clean, no one had ever used it.
Since we properly cook at home, I said that and first thing I pan-fried gyoza.
I remember it well, I cooked gyoza first with the feeling of like, this is who we are, nice to meet you.
It's almost unchanged, that
We've been using this dining table, this table, ever since we moved in.
And this one, we bought it when we got married and used it in the first apartment we lived in
as a dining table, for meals, and we bought this one to match this place, it's bubinga wood.
I think it was like breakfast over there and dinner over here
This was handed down from my mother, I treasure it and apparently didn't want to throw it away.
It may have been in our house since I was in high school.
I don't really have a strong attachment to it or anything.
But I'd like to keep using it as is.
This is also used as a place for plants and as the cat's drinking spot.
It's designed so that even if the cat knocks over the vase, water won't splash everywhere. Everfresh
I cut off the tip of the, well, branches, or if flowers are blooming on the balcony I float them, depending on the time,
Maybe I want to keep it as a space where we can eat and drink deliciously.
The living room, you know,
or feeling the seasonal breeze, maybe I think it would be nice to have meals in that kind of setting.
The wood deck was once a huge success here.
But it all rotted and became unusable, so we removed all of it.
And when there were no plants at all, I couldn't tell if the wind was blowing or not
何にも動くものがないのででやっぱり緑ないと寂しいなと思ってbecause there was nothing moving, and I thought it's lonely without greenery
So I think that was what made me decide to do something I could handle myself this time.
気候The climate
when it's nice, I eat breakfast here alone.
I drink my morning coffee here, and at night when I come home I drink beer here, it feels great.
Give them some water.
I don't really like tidying or cleaning, but I like a clean space so I do it.
Tidying up frequently is just normal, I don't leave things out.
It's less like I'm being careful about it, and more like it's just become natural.
Without sorting too finely
ざっとjust roughly
入れればいいっていう大体この辺にそれがあるハサミとか普段使うものたちとか、it's fine to just put things in, like roughly around here are scissors and everyday things,
I try not to accumulate too many things,
because if I cram it full I won't know what's where.
I try not to pack it too tight. Tissue box
I bought it but it wasn't tall enough, so if I squeeze it in here like this, I can use it neatly, right.
Drain nets and rubber bands, I think I got them from someone.
So I don't use them much
I think keeping it loose and relaxed makes storage easier.
It's full of tupperware and you can't see the plastic
I like that it's a bit hidden, the top shelf is for things I don't use much, the second is
漬物系pickles and such
三番目四番目はすぐ食べられるものかなっていうふうに組み分けててthe third and fourth are for things I can eat right away, that's how I organize it
Vegetables with dirt on them and such.
It's a bag for storing onions whose skins peel off and scatter, and root vegetables.
If I do it like this, the fridge itself doesn't get too dirty.
If you cut the front of a small paper bag and roll it, it becomes a pretty sturdy box, so it's easy.
And when it gets dirty you can just throw it away.
It's soft, so even if you squeeze it like this, it changes shape, so it's flexible depending on the amount of stuff.
I hate having to start with tidying up after I come home.
So I tidy up properly, like I can't do it with clothes or anything.
That tends to get pretty messy, but I want to keep only the food really proper.
That's why it's strange.
Being too particular about things,
I don't really like that, or I think it's exhausting, so I want to keep an open mind,
絶対こうじゃなきゃいけないとか、like it absolutely has to be this way,
これはこういうふうに置いておきたいとか、それって絶対人と同居人と共有できるものではないし、or I want to keep this placed like this — that's definitely not something you can share with someone you live with,
it's stifling, so whatever comes.
That kind of tolerance, being able to accept
一番人がくつろげることなのかなっていうふうには思っていてis what makes people feel most relaxed, I think
But looking at it again in terms of taste, I think it has gotten old, but while living here I don't really notice it, so
一緒に年を取ったなという感じをしながらfeeling like we've aged together
いやなこととしてではなく楽しんでるかなっていう感じですかねnot as something unpleasant, but I'm enjoying it, I guess
Within the space I have now
I think home is about living as comfortably as I possibly can, and that's enough.
