ある日ひ、One day,

ミッフィーちゃんはいろいろ考かんがえたの。Miffy was thinking about various things.

大おおきくなったらパパに自転車じてんしゃを買かっていただこう。When I grow up, I'll have Papa buy me a bicycle.

そしたらアリゾベ様ように会あいに行いけるわ。Then I can go visit Aunt Alice.

自転車じてんしゃで綺麗きれいな花はながいっぱい咲さいてる野原のはらを走はしったら気持きもちいいでしょうね。It would feel so nice to ride a bicycle through a meadow full of pretty blooming flowers.

ミッフィーちゃんはお花はなを見みるのが大好だいすきなの。Miffy loves looking at flowers.

お池いけではアヒルさんたちにパンをあげよう。At the pond I'll give bread to the ducks.

ハラペコなアヒルさんたちはあっという間まに平たいらげちゃうわ。The hungry ducks will gobble it all up in no time.

公園こうえんを走はしるときは木きがたくさんあるから注意ちゅういしなくては。When riding through the park, I must be careful because there are lots of trees.

何なんかにぶつかったら怪我けがをするし、自転車じてんしゃだってめちゃめちゃになるわ。If I bump into something I'll get hurt, and the bicycle will be wrecked too.

帰かえりも公園こうえんの木きにぶつからないようにゆっくりと走はしりましょう。On the way home too, I'll ride slowly so I don't bump into the trees in the park.

真まっ黒くろい雲くもが現あらわれたらきっと雨あめが降ふるわ。If pitch-black clouds appear, it will surely rain.

そしたら私わたしはびしょ濡ぬれ。Then I'll get soaking wet.

でもへっちゃらよ。But I don't mind.

ミッフィーちゃんって何なんでも楽たのしく考かんがえる天才てんさいなんです。Miffy is a genius at thinking about everything in a fun way.

お家うちに着ついたら自転車じてんしゃを乾かわかしピカピカになるまで磨みがこうっと。When I get home, I'll dry the bicycle and polish it until it shines.

でもこれは全部ぜんぶミッフィーちゃんが心こころの中なかで思おもったことなんです。But all of this is what Miffy thought in her heart.

あるOnce

小ちいさなお家うちにラビットさんというウサギの夫婦ふうふが住すんでました。in a small house lived a rabbit couple called the Rabbits.

真まっ白しろい壁かべに真まっ赤かな屋根やねがついてるお家うちなの。It's a house with pure white walls and a bright red roof.

ラビットさんは庭にわいじりが大好だいすきで、バラやチューリップやいろんな花はなを育そだてていました。Mr. Rabbit loved gardening, and grew roses and tulips and all kinds of flowers.

毎日まいにち花壇かだんの草取くさとりをしたり水みずをやったり。Every day he weeded the flower beds and watered them.

奥おくさんはうちのお掃除そうじをしたり、ラビットさんのためにお料理りょうり。His wife cleaned the house, and cooked for Mr. Rabbit.

お買かい物ものには大おおきな荷物にもつを下さげていきました。She went shopping carrying big bags.

ある日ひ、甘あまくて美味おいしそうな梨なしを買かいました。One day, she bought sweet, delicious-looking pears.

梨なしの形かたちを見みながらラビットさんの奥おくさんがつぶやきました。Looking at the shape of the pears, Mrs. Rabbit murmured.

赤あかちゃんが欲ほしいわ。I want a baby.

そしたら可愛かわいいセーターも編あんでやれるし、あなたは乳母車うばぐるまを作つくってやれるわ。Then I can knit a cute sweater, and you can make a pram.

で、And,

ある晩ばん、窓まどをことこと叩たたく音おとがしたの。one evening, there came a tapping sound at the window.

奥おくさんは窓まどの外そとを覗のぞいてみました。His wife peeked outside the window.

すると、あら、小ちいさな天使てんしが。Then, oh, a little angel appeared.

天使てんしは言いいました、願ねがい事ごとを叶かなえてあげましょう。The angel said, I will grant your wish.

赤あかちゃんはもうすぐ生うまれます。The baby will be born very soon.

そう言いうと、天使てんしは空そらへ飛とんでいってしまいました。Saying that, the angel flew away into the sky.

ラビットさんたちは嬉うれしくてたまりません。Mr. and Mrs. Rabbit couldn't be happier.

それから間まもなくして赤あかちゃんが本当ほんとうに生うまれたの。And soon after, the baby was really born.

ラビットさんたちはミッフィーという名前なまえをつけました。Mr. and Mrs. Rabbit named her Miffy.

真まっ白しろくて耳みみの長ながい可愛かわいい赤あかちゃんウサギです。She is a cute pure-white baby bunny with long ears.

ミッフィーちゃんを見みにオンドリさんやメンドリさんやひよこたち、それに牛うしさんまでがやってきました。Mr. Rooster and Mrs. Hen and the chicks, and even the cow came to see Miffy.

まあなんて可愛かわいいんでしょうと牛うしさん、ひよこたちはねえミッフィーちゃんと遊あそんでもいい?Oh how cute, said the cow, and the chicks said, can we play with Miffy?

でもミッフィーはお眠ねむりなの。But Miffy is asleep.

ミッフィーはまだ赤あかちゃんだからたくさんねんねしなくてはね。Miffy is still a baby, so she has to sleep a lot.

オンドリさん、メンドリさん、ひよこたち、そして牛うしさん、みんなそっと帰かえっていきました。Mr. Rooster, Mrs. Hen, the chicks, and the cow all quietly went home.

庭にわの畑はたけにはおネギやおマメやラディッシュや人参にんじんがあります。In the garden patch there are green onions and beans and radishes and carrots.

何なにを食たべましょうか。あ、What shall I eat. Oh,

私わたし昨日きのう美味おいしそうな人参にんじんを抜ぬいたんだわ。I pulled up a delicious-looking carrot yesterday.

そう言いってポピーさんは人参にんじんを料理りょうりして美味おいしそうにパクパク食たべました。Saying so, Poppy cooked the carrot and ate it up deliciously.

人参にんじんもお腹なかいっぱい食たべたし、さあそろそろ休やすむことにしましょう。I've eaten my fill of carrots, now let's rest for a while.

飛行機ひこうきが飛とんでるの。An airplane is flying.

操縦そうじゅうしているのはボリスさんです。Boris is piloting it.

飛行機ひこうきはどんどん降おりてきて、とうとう芝生しばふの上うえに着陸ちゃくりくしてしまいました。The airplane came down lower and lower, and finally landed on the lawn.

ミッフィーちゃんは飛とび上あがって喜よろこびました。Miffy jumped up with joy.

いやあ、ミッフィーちゃん、飛行機ひこうきに乗のってみない?Well, Miffy, would you like to ride in the airplane?

ミッフィーちゃんは大喜おおよろこび。Miffy was delighted.

おじさま、早はやく連つれて行いって。Uncle, take me quickly.

じゃあまずママに聞きいておいで。Well, first go and ask Mama.

さあ森もりの上うえだ。Miffy, look at the castle in the forest.

ミッフィーちゃん、森もりの中なかのお城しろを見みてごらん。Isn't it beautiful.

綺麗きれいだろう。Wow, look, it's the sea.

わあ見みて海うみよ。It looks like they're racing.

残念ざんねんだが帰かえらなきゃ。Sadly, we have to go back.

ミッフィーちゃんとおじさまは、あんまり楽たのしかったんであっという間まに時間じかんが過すぎちゃった。Miffy and her uncle were having so much fun that time just flew by.
