二人ふたりのおじいさんとit's a Japanese folktale about

鬼おにが出でてくる日本にほんの昔話むかしばなしです。two old men and demons.

それではゆっくり聞きいてください。So please listen and relax.

こぶとりじいさん。Kobutori Jiisan.

昔々むかしむかし、Once upon a time,

ある村むらに。in a certain village.

一人ひとりのおじいさんがいました。there lived an old man.

右みぎのほっぺたにOn his right cheek

大おおきなコブがありました。he had a big lump.

おじいさんは踊おどることが大好だいすきでした。The old man loved to dance.

ある日ひ、おじいさんは山やまへ木きを切きりに行いきました。One day, the old man went to the mountains to cut wood.

すると急きゅうに雨あめが降ふってきました。Then it suddenly started to rain.

ここで少すこし休やすもう。I'll rest here for a bit.

大おおきな木きの穴あなに入はいり、He went into a hole in a big tree,

雨あめがやむのを待まちました。and waited for the rain to stop.

いつの間まにか眠ねむっていました。Before he knew it, he had fallen asleep.

目めを覚さますと、もう夜よるでした。When he woke up, it was already night.

外そとから楽たのしそうな声こえが聞きこえてきました。Cheerful voices could be heard from outside.

そっと見みると、When he peeked out quietly,

鬼おにたちが踊おどっていました。demons were dancing.

うわ、鬼おにだ。Wow, demons.

見みつかったらどうしよう。What if they find me.

でも見みているとだんだん楽たのしくなりました。But as he watched, it gradually became fun.

わしも一緒いっしょに踊おどりたいな。I want to dance with them too.

木きの穴あなから飛とび出だしました。He jumped out of the tree hole.

手てを上あげ、くるりと回まわります。He raised his hands and spun around.

鬼おにたちは大喜おおよろこびです。The demons were delighted.

面白おもしろい、もっと踊おどれ。Funny, dance more.

がはは。Gahaha.

おじいさんも踊おどり続つづけました。The old man kept dancing too.

やがて空そらが明あかるくなりました。Soon the sky grew light.

鬼おにの親分おやぶんが。The demon boss

言いいました。said.

おい、爺じいさん。Hey, old man.

明日あしたの夜よるもここへ来きてくれ。Come here again tomorrow night.

また来くるまでこのコブを預あずかっておこう。Until you come again, I'll keep this lump.

鬼おにがコブを引ひくと、ほろりと取とれました。When the demon pulled the lump, it came right off.

でも全然ぜんぜん痛いたくありません。But it didn't hurt at all.

おお、コブが。Oh, my lump.

こぶがなくなったThe lump is gone

おじいさんは喜よろこんで家いえへ帰かえりました。The old man happily went home.

隣となりにもこぶのあるおじいさんが住すんでいました。Next door lived another old man with a lump.

こちらのこぶは左ひだりのほっぺたにありました。His lump was on his left cheek.

話はなしを聞きいてHearing the story,

羨うらやましくなりました。he became envious.

私わたしも。Me too.

コブを取とってもらおう。I'll have them take my lump off.

次つぎの夜よる、隣となりのおじいさんも山やまへ行いきました。The next night, the neighboring old man also went to the mountain.

木きの穴あなで待まっていると、鬼おにたちがやってきました。As he waited in the hollow of the tree, the demons came.

おじいさんは穴あなから出でました。The old man came out of the hole.

ここにいますよ。Here I am.

鬼おにの親分おやぶんが言いいました。The demon chief said.

おお、爺じいさん、今日きょうも来きたOh, old man, you came today too

な。.

さあ、昨日きのうのように踊おどってくれ。Now, dance for us like yesterday.

でもこのお爺じいさんは踊おどりが得意とくいではありません。But this old man was not good at dancing.

手ても足あしもうまく動うごきません。His hands and feet would not move well.

鬼おにたちはだんだん静しずかになりました。The demons gradually became quiet.

昨日きのうと。It's different from yesterday.

違ちがうぞ。It's different.

全然ぜんぜん面白おもしろくない。It's not fun at all.

鬼おにの親分おやぶんが言いいました。The demon chief said.

もういい。Enough already.

コブを返かえすから帰かえれ。I'll give your lump back, so go home.

そして預あずかっていたコブをAnd the lump he had been holding

右みぎのほっぺたにつけました。he put on the right cheek.

左ひだりにもコブ、A lump on the left too,

右みぎにもコブ。a lump on the right too.

コブは。The lumps

二ふたつになってしまいました。became two.

ああ、コブを取とりに来きたのに、Ah, he came to get rid of his lump, but

おじいさんは悲かなしそうに家いえへ帰かえったと言いいます。they say the old man went home looking sad.
