Hello everyone.
I'm Akane from Akane's Japanese Classroom.
This radio has no script.

As I've already announced on YouTube and Instagram, I
made a new challenge this time, so I want to talk about that.
This time I made a drip bag coffee called Podcast Coffee.
A drip bag is something that lets you easily
It's something you can easily drink a cup of coffee with at home.
Take it out of the bag and set it on a cup,
and you can drink it just by pouring hot water.
To pour means to put a drink into a cup.
はい。Yes.
And this coffee was made in collaboration with a coffee shop called The Coffee in Chiba Prefecture.
This podcast coffee can be bought at The Coffee's shop and also in the online shop.
There is The Coffee's online shop and you can buy it there.
Um, about the podcast coffee.
I'll put a link, so if you're interested, there's a link in the description, please check it.
But, yes, due to the recent typhoon, the Mori Station where this shop is,
that's the nearest station.
From that shop,
the nearest station still has no trains running.
Well, I wonder.
I'm recording this radio now on September 29th.
Maybe by that time the trains might be running, but it's a pretty serious situation so.
According to the news, they said it will take 3 months to restore, so it might be a bit difficult.
まあWell,
But, you know, there are highway buses from Tokyo Station, Shinagawa Station, and Yokohama Station too, so
if you want to go you can, but well, I think it's a bit difficult.
I think it's still difficult.
Yes, the online shop, well, there is an online shop, so if you're interested please look at the online shop.
And for me, making some kind of product,
making it myself was my first experience.
And I made it this time because I wanted to have this experience.
But there are three other reasons why I made the podcast coffee.
I already talked about that in a YouTube video, so
ぜひあかね的日本語教室のユーチューブチャンネル10月1日にその動画をplease, on Akane-teki Japanese Classroom's YouTube channel, on October 1st that video
I think will be published, so,
ユーチューブの10月1日の動画をぜひplease watch the October 1st video on YouTube.
Please watch it.
Well, making a product is really difficult.
People who usually do that kind of work, I think there are some among the people listening to this radio.
Wow, everyone is amazing, really.
Well, what I really learned this time is, well, how to make drip bags,
that making process, process.
Process, or rather, well, the flow.
First do this, next do this, that
flow until the product is finished, I studied that this time.
Well, actually, I...
I'm not doing anything with the coffee beans myself, I asked The Coffee to do that, but for example, the drip bag
For the design, this time, since I like cats, there are cats drawn on it.
Well, things like how to handle that kind of design,
あと外袋を何色にするのかとか、文字は何色にするのかとか、まあそういう細かいこともあるし、and what color to make the outer bag, what color to make the text, well, there are those detailed things too,
The thing I struggled with the most was the price.
This was really hard.
Let me say this first.
I really make almost no profit from selling this podcast coffee.
はい。Yes.
Um, so, making something and selling it
really costs money, doesn't it.
うん。Yeah.
And this time, I'm having The Coffee sell the podcast coffee for me.
Selling, selling means to sell.
If you go to The Coffee's shop, you'll find this podcast coffee there.
And The Coffee also runs the online shop, so
もしねあの皆さんが買ってくださったらオンラインで買ってくださったらザ・コーヒーさんがえっとそのif you all buy it, if you buy it online, The Coffee will handle the
shipping procedures.
Shipping, the procedure for sending it.
For example, putting it in a bag or a box, The Coffee does all of that.
I'm really grateful for that.
うん。Yeah.
Ah, and sorry about this.
This time, shipping for this coffee is only available within Japan.
We can only send it to addresses in Japan.
Sorry.
住所。Address.
But there seem to be some services like Tenso.com that will forward Japanese products
for you, so if you use something like that, you might be able to have it sent.
But we can't ship directly overseas from The Coffee's online shop, sorry.
Well, thinking about all those kinds of things was really tough.
You know, we can casually buy
food and drinks at supermarkets or convenience stores, right?
If you pay money, you can buy them right away.
But the people who make them really think about so many things to make them.
Like I said earlier, package design, or how to sell the package,
どういうお店で売ってもらうとか、like what kind of store to have sell it,
and if you have a store sell it, of course you have to pay a sales commission.
Since the shop staff handle the accounting and put things in bags, of course I
have to pay them.
When that drip bag coffee is sold, from that price, a fixed
percentage goes to the shop.
So I have to decide the price considering all of those things.
It's obvious, but it's obvious.
Of course.
But this was my first time doing something like this.
So it was really hard to think about what price to set.
Of course, I consulted with the staff at The Coffee in various ways, and decided on this price.
And I didn't want to make it expensive, so...
So, yeah, it's really a barely break-even price.
I don't think it'll be a loss, but, well, yeah.
うん。Yeah.
I can't really make a profit from it at all.
うん。Yeah.
To profit,
to profit, meaning to earn a lot of money from it, that's totally...
できません。I can't.
Well, I think it's probably just barely enough not to be a loss.
It probably won't go negative, but I set it at that kind of barely break-even price.
Yeah, an acquaintance told me I should make it a bit more expensive, but
well, this is my first time doing something like this, so for me it's an experience.
うん。Yeah.
So maybe, if this podcast coffee becomes
known to everyone and sells a lot, yeah, I might raise the price.
I can't keep going at this price.
Or I'll quit.
Actually, quitting is also an option.
うん。Yeah.
As I said before, I'm not trying to earn my salary from this podcast coffee.
なので、So,
well, if it goes into the red or becomes negative, then I just can't do it, so quitting is actually an option.
I don't know yet.
But since I went to the trouble of making it, I'd like to think about how
I can keep selling it for a long time.
It's really difficult.
I really wondered how everyone else handles it.
I became really interested in how people who make and sell products decide
on that price.
Until now, I guess I hadn't thought that deeply when shopping.
うん。Yeah.
But I mean, everyone is like that, right?
Probably when you go to a supermarket or convenience store, you buy it if you like it, and you don't if you don't.
If you think the price is high, you might not buy it, that kind of
thinking from the consumer's perspective, the consumer perspective.
Well, a consumer is a person who buys.
A person who pays money to buy something is called a consumer.
そう。Right.
Well, consumers also have their own, consumers'...
My pronunciation was bad just now.
Consumer.
Consumers have their own way of thinking.
So if the consumers' thinking and the seller's, the shop person's thinking don't match,
consumers won't buy it, right?
Right, it's really difficult.
そう。Right.
And, probably this time, when I say I released this podcast coffee, I made it, people will say you can't buy it overseas.
What should I do, or it's unfair that only people in Japan can get it, I think they'll probably say that.
Well, I've had a lot of that kind of experience before with publishing.
But it's difficult, isn't it?
It's really not that simple, so I'm truly sorry about that.
If there's someone who wants it,
転送ドットコムとかのサービスも使えないっていう人がいたら本当に申し訳ないんですけど、and if there's someone who can't use services like Tenso.com, I'm really sorry,
まあただ私も自分で今仕事をしていて今回のポッドキャストコーヒーを売るwell, I'm also working myself now, and selling this podcast coffee
is not my main job.
And the coffee shop, The Coffee-san, also has their own shop and they're busy, so The Coffee
I can't, in my position, tell them to please make sure they can ship overseas.
Yeah, I know they're busy.
Yeah, so it's really difficult, like how is everyone handling this.
That's right.
Yeah, well, I've really thought about a lot of things.
Yeah, but for now, I'll just do what I can.
So, for now, with domestic shipping in Japan, it became this price.
はい。Yes.
And, oh right.
The podcast coffee comes in various sets.
If you buy a set, a script card comes with it.
It comes with it.
And that script card has a QR code on it.
If you scan it, you can see the podcast script, so please take a look.
And for the podcast, if you buy the drip bags, on the back of the drip bag
package there's a QR code, so if you scan it you can listen on YouTube.
I wanted to use Spotify, but on Spotify, that private,
the setting where only people who know the link can listen wasn't possible.
So I made it so you can listen on YouTube.
Yes, well, thinking about all that stuff was tough too.
はい。Yes.
And the scri-script cards, I made them with a cute design.
Um, there's a link in the description, so there, there, today I'm no good, I can't speak well.
Today as well.
Yes, sorry.
If you look at the link in the description, you can see the design of the script card.
And the script card has
a handwritten message from me.
I worked hard to write it.
There are 4 patterns for that message, so enjoy finding out which one you'll get, which one is inside.
Making those cards was also a bit tough.
そう。Yeah.
But, you know, the people who bought it
making the people who bought it happy, that's the number one goal this time.
Like I said earlier,
本当にあの私がreally, for me
お金を稼ぐためのものではないので、皆さんがこうちょっとねカフェインレスコーヒーを飲みながらit's not something to make money from, so while drinking decaf coffee like this
ホッとしながらゆっくりしながらポッドキャスト聞いたり日本語の勉強したり休憩したりrelaxing and taking it slow while listening to the podcast or studying Japanese or taking a break,
I'd be happy if you could drink it at times like that.
I'll drink some tea.
I decided to have tea today.
Tea, tea
Wait, I was about to say something, uh
Right, right, right, maybe some people might think like this: but Akane-san, you've published a book so
Well, books are products too, right?
So you might think, well, I decided the price and stuff, but there might be people who think that.
As for books, the publisher decides everything. The publisher, yes.
Well, of course they show it to me.
Like, how about this price, of course they tell me.
But basically, it's the publisher who decides the price.
And then, at which bookstore will the book I wrote be sold.
Deciding that is also up to the publisher and the bookstores.
So as for books, I
I can't be involved when it comes to selling the book.
Yes, I'm the author, the author,
Author, uh, wait, author, author means the person who wrote the book.
I'm the author, but
When it comes to selling that book, I can't interfere, it's a bit difficult, I can't interfere,
Yeah, I can't be involved, I can't get involved, I can't interfere.
Well, I can give ideas, but I can't actually go to a bookstore and say, please stock my book.
That's what the publisher's sales reps do for me.
It's the sales reps' job.
Yes, that's how it is, so
As for books, I can't be involved in sales, so this podcast coffee is really my first time for me
にとって本当に初めてこう一から作って、で、making something from scratch, and then,
I'm experiencing being involved in selling it.
But it's interesting, that
自分がI myself
being able to experience something I've never experienced is educational and really interesting.
As I said earlier, my way of thinking when shopping has really changed.
How can they sell this product so cheaply, or
As for products that I think are a bit expensive,
うんYeah
I wonder what they're spending time on,
I've started to think a bit about what causes and what reasons they set this price for.
After all, there's definitely thinking behind each one.
There's some thinking behind setting that price, and some thinking behind making the package design like that.
So I've developed a habit of thinking about those things a bit.
I thought that was really interesting myself.
Yes, it's tough, isn't it.
But really, are you in here?
People who develop products themselves and are involved in selling them, I think there are probably some.
People who work on deciding prices or doing promotions,
I think there are quite a few people who actually go to stores and do sales to get their products stocked.
なので。So.
If there's anyone doing that kind of work, please let me know in the comments.
You don't have to write in detail.
You don't have to say the product name, so for example, like me, uh, in sales
えっと営業していますとか、まあこういうことが大変ですとか、こういうことが面白いですみたいなことがあればlike, I'm in sales, or this is hard, or this is interesting, if you have anything like that
I'd love for you to tell me.
Yeah, but it's amazing.
Well, it's something I thought when publishing a book too,
So many people are involved in making one product.
So what I thought this time too is that I can't do it alone.
For example, making it from coffee beans myself alone, or roasting them,
or printing the packaging, of course I can't do things like that.
だからSo
本当に商品を作る過程っていろんな人が関わってもう時間もかかるしthe process of really making a product involves so many people and takes so much time,
I thought it was harder than I had imagined.
I only understood this because I experienced it this time.
In my head, I kind of thought making a product would be hard, of course.
But when you actually experience it, you understand it in more detail.
You understand even the small details, like this part here is hard,
so I really learned a lot this time.
うん。Yeah.
But continuing this is a bit tough.
ね。Right.
Well, but if I could do it myself,
like having an online shop would be best, but that's a bit difficult.
When it comes to shipping, that's true.
I might have to quit some work.
Well, I don't think there are that many people who would understand, probably.
うん。Yeah.
So even if I do it all by myself, it might not be that hard, but well, about that,
I want to think about it while watching how this time goes.
It's really my first time doing this, so
I don't know how much it will sell, and there might be some problems from now on.
At that time, how to solve those problems
というのも考えなければいけないので、まずはこの経験を通してまあちょっと勉強して、is something I have to think about, so first through this experience I'll learn a bit,
これからねポッドキャストコーヒーをand from now on, whether to keep selling the podcast coffee
or what to do, I want to think about that.
はい。Yes.
But really, being able to challenge myself with new things like this is thanks to all of you.
Thank you so much.
Publishing a book, making podcast coffee,
を作るっていうことは、まああのそのなんだろうな、日本語教師っていう仕事をまあちょっとwell, that's, how should I put it, a bit beyond the job of a Japanese teacher,
how should I say it.
Of course, for me it's all part of Japanese education work, but
yeah, it's a bit outside of teaching.
Especially this time.
So being able to have these new experiences
is only possible because there are all of you listening to the podcast and radio.
It's possible because there are YouTube viewers.
うん、Yeah,
My italki students, well.
I think everyone is like that, but really there are many people who work hard.
So we are influenced by such people and can work hard like this now.
Also, seeing comments on the radio or podcast, comments on YouTube,
seeing all of you listeners working hard, I can really work hard too.
Yeah, I'm truly grateful.
For me, all of you are truly a blessing.
Thank you always.
Well then, I'd like to end today's radio here.
See you again on next week's radio.
Bye-bye.
