水みずは普通ふつう、物ものを浮うかべると引ひっ張ぱる力ちからが全体ぜんたいに働はたらいて動うごかない。Normally, when you float something on water, pulling force acts all over it so it doesn't move.

その働はたらきを表面張力ひょうめんちょうりょくと言いうんだけど、洗剤せんざいに入はいっている界面活性剤かいめんかっせいざいはその力ちからを弱よわめることができるの。That effect is called surface tension, and the surfactants in detergent can weaken that force.

つまり洗剤せんざいを一滴いってき垂たらすと表面張力ひょうめんちょうりょくは弱よわくなって引ひっ張ぱる力ちからがなくなるのでボートが動うごき出だすってわけ。In other words, if you drop in detergent, the surface tension weakens and the pulling force disappears, so the boat starts moving.
