About LingoDew

LingoDew is for learning English and Japanese from real YouTube videos. You watch with subtitles synced to the audio word by word, tap any word to look it up and save it, and review saved words with FSRS spaced repetition until you know them. It works in the browser on a computer or a phone, with no sign-up, and the same account also works in the iOS and Android apps.

Where the videos come from

Every video comes from a creator's own YouTube channel, and new ones are added every day. Videos play through YouTube's official player, so every view happens on YouTube; we never re-upload them. Each video page names the channel and links back to it. Creators can have their videos removed at any time; see For YouTube creators.

For each video we prepare the subtitles from its audio ahead of time, align every word to the moment it is spoken, add a translation, and attach dictionary entries to the words. Videos whose subtitles or word timing fail these checks are not published.

How difficulty labels work

Every video carries a level: A1 to C2 (CEFR) for English and N5 to N1 (JLPT) for Japanese. The level is estimated from the video's timed subtitles — the words used, sentence length, grammar and speaking speed. It is a guide for choosing what to watch, not an official exam rating, and a level that is off can be corrected by hand.

Price

LingoDew is free to start, with no account required. Every video plays free, and the subtitle toolkit — lookups, saved words and review — comes with today's picks, the past two days of daily picks and videos released in the last 48 hours, plus 10 AI explanations a day.
