Hello, blow under, well hello everyone, it's Hitoki.
I think when everyone first studies Japanese, you learn hai and iie, and hai is used quite a lot.
But, I've never once said iie.
What I just said was the first time.
When we use iie, for example in game options, hai, iie, or
and also in surveys, we use hai, iie.
So when speaking, if you use iie, it's like the iie in games,
it feels a bit robotic, and also a bit cold, like iie.
I've really never seen anyone use this iie, and I've never used it either.
But of course we also have a Japanese word for NO, so
今日はToday
Well,
instead of iie, I'll explain what to say, and at the end I'll call a friend to check what my friend says instead of iie.
Instead, basically we use iya or ie.
We use ie a lot more.
Ie is a bit way too polite, so I never use it at all.
My image of ie is that mothers often use it with each other.
Don't mothers from any country try to keep graceful when talking to other people?
They try to use polite language and give off a gentle atmosphere, right?
So when my mom talks with me it's in a normal voice, but
なんか電話が来るとちょっと声が高くなってもしもしみたいな感じ、そういう風になんかエレガントな雰囲気を出そうとしてませんか?when a phone call comes her voice gets a bit higher like moshimoshi, doesn't she try to give off that kind of elegant atmosphere?
Often in those times when you want to say no, they say ie, it's fine.
For example, your son is so smart.
Like ie, that's not true, or ie ie, that's not true, saying ie twice like that.
Well, I don't normally use it though.
But if I had a chance to talk with Prime Minister Abe, I think I'd use it.
Well, normally with important people,
あとは初めてand also for the first time
and moreover when that person uses very polite language with me, I also use very polite language like ie.
But normally when I go to a convenience store or go to a shop, I use iya a lot more.
For example, when I go to a convenience store, and the clerk asks me, Do you want a bag?
I say, iya, I'm fine.
Of course I use iya when I normally go shopping, and also when a stranger asks, Do you know this road?
I answer like, iya, I don't really know.
So, the one I use the most is iya, and when I want to give off a slightly elegant atmosphere, I use ie.
When you all want to say no, please try using iya.
It's not rude at all, so that's fine.
Also when I want to say no to family or friends, the one I use most is iya.
Like when a friend asks, wanna go to a movie?
I say like, iya, I have a test tomorrow.
I think you've now learned iya and ie, but when you want to say it even more casually, there's a way of saying uun.
Actually when writing casual hai and ie, it's un,
uun, but when actually saying it in words, you say un, uun.
So if you said uun, it's kind of funny, but no one says it like that.
In my image, if someone said uun, I think it's a bit cute.
This uun I only use with family or friends.
For example, my mom often asks, do you want tea?
At that time I say, uun, I don't need it.
If I wanted it, I'd say, un, I'll drink.
This un, uun is too casual, so if a shop worker asks, do you need a bag?
If you say that, and go "uh-uh, I don't need it," the shop staff will probably think, "Huh, is this person my friend?"
That's what I think they'll think.
That's a bit rude, so please say things like "No, I'm fine" or "Yes, please."
The "no" we studied today — you say "ie" when talking to Prime Minister Abe, normally "iya," and "uun" only with family and friends.
So I'll call my friend to check if what I said is really true.
As we just studied, basically for no
you use "iya," so if I say I know this, he'll probably say "No, I don't know."
Well, or since we're friends, he'll probably say "Uun, I don't know."
But he will absolutely absolutely absolutely never say "ie."
If he does say it.
I can do PPAP naked starting tomorrow.
I wonder if he'll pick up.
I'm going to give him a call.
Hello?
Ah, hello?
Hey, do you know where my black jumper is?
Do you know my black jumper?
That down jacket-looking one I always wear.
Yeah yeah yeah yeah.
I just can't find it, do you know where it is?
いや、No,
I don't know.
Um, I haven't seen anything like that.
Ah, I see, I see.
You weren't wearing it the other day, right?
うん。Yeah.
そう。Right.
I wasn't wearing it, I wasn't.
I see, so it's probably not there then.
I don't think so.
Ah, I see, I see, thanks.
Um, um, by the way,
By the way, I'm really sorry about this, but I'm just filming a YouTube video, just testing how Japanese people say no,
just checking, so I actually have the black jumper with me.
Ah, what the heck, damn it.
Am I good enough for someone like me?
Totally fine.
But you properly said "iya," so that's a success.
そう。Yeah.
Perfect.
Perfect, thank you very much.
So this is going to end up on YouTube, just my voice?
Just your voice, and I'll hide your name so it's fine.
Thanks.
Bye bye.
See ya.
はい。Yes.
ね?See?
He properly said "iya," right?
So it's true.
If you liked the video, give it a like and subscribe to my channel。Japanese people all say 'iya'. If you liked the video, give it a like and subscribe to my channel.
Thank you all so much.
Casual speech mode.
At first when I asked him a question, he asked me back instead, so I thought, no no,
って言えよって思ったんだけど、ちゃんともう一回質問したらちゃんとyes/noでjust say it, but when I asked the question again properly, he answered properly with a yes/no and
when he said no he said 'iya', so I was super happy.
